• The GPS is composed of 24 satellites 20,200 km above the earth. The satellites are spaced in orbit so that at any time a minimum of six satellites will be in view to users anywhere in the world. The satellites constantly broadcast position and time data to users all through the world.
• Using a portable or handheld receiver unit that receives data from the closest satellites, the GPS unit triangulates the data to determine the unit's exact location elevation, speed, and time. This information is available around-the-clock anywhere in the world and is not dependent on weather.
• Many over-the-counter handheld GPS Navigation units contain base maps of a region of the earth, but most can be hooked up to a computer to download additional data for specific locales.
If you are planning to install a GPS car navigation unit, there are a lot of option to consider.
1) How often are you going to use the navigation system? GPS car navigation systems vary in price. Some are even loaded with advanced features such as Bluetooth capability. You need to choose the one that fits your budget and needs.
2) GPS screen sizes have a huge effect on the price, so try to purchase the biggest screen that you can pay for, although this should be secondary to the quality of the radio receivers and the number of satellites the GPS can use. Most GPS navigation screen wash out in sunlight, so make sure to pick the right screen is important.
3) If you have space in your car, you can buy an in dash navigation unit. Having an in dash GPS will give you more audio control. Buying a portable navigation might be a good option as well. Make sure you mount you GPS to be easily reachable while driving.
4) Make sure that the menu can be easily used while driving. It is a good idea to buy a voice activated units which allow you to access different functions while keeping your hands on the wheel.

The route 66 offers free road maps. And the MY Position function in the navigator really works. While enabling the navigation feature, the phone saves and retstarts. It may restart continually(Happened for me) in that case just remove the battery and reinstall and turn back on. The new navigation icon will appear but 'it wont run' because the software is not fully installed. So you need to go to the route 66 site given above and download the sync software for samsung JET and install it. Once intalled connect your phone in mass storage mode and route 66 will automatically detect the phone and install the software. On the phone after installing the program may ask to get license key from server. Just click no and you are good to go.You can go to route 66 store to get free road maps.Enjoy!!
