Subwoofer Box Information |
If you own a car subwoofer, you are likely looking for the perfect enclosure/box to host your sub. Before you buy your sub box, you need to make sure that you choose the sub that fits your needs to maximize sound performance. There are many vital things you need to take a closer look before investing into your subwoofer enclosure:
1) Subwoofer Enclosure Dimensions: The dimensions of your enclosure are very important to consider. You need to buy an enclosure that fits your car subwoofer. If you purchase a smaller sub box than the recommended one, you will get a tighter sound. At the same time, bigger enclosures will produce grubby sound. Make sure that you subwoofer enclosure fits your sub.
2) Medium density fiberboard (MDF) enclosures are considered to be the best because it decreases panel vibrations. If your subwoofer enclosure is for outdoor usage (Boat for example), then it is recommended to use marine-grade plywood instead.
3) Subwoofer Box Type: Choosing your subwoofer box type depends on what type of music you like. Sealed subwoofer enclosures are widely known and easy to make. This type of enclosures gives a rigid and defined bass. Ported subwoofer enclosures are another option. This type of enclosure is bigger than the sealed box and it provides a deeper bass. This is an ideal option if you like to listen to rock, metal music. If you like to listen to rap, reggae and hard rock music, a band pass box might be your best option. This type of enclosure provides an aggressive sound. If you have limited space in your car or trunk, you can buy an enclosed subwoofer box. This is an easiest option to go for to get a perfectly matched sub and enclosure.
Make sure you pick the right subwoofer box before spending money on a box that won’t give you the sound performance you are looking for.

A video demonstrating how I carpet my fiberglass sub boxes. I am no expert at this but there is not much info about this kind of upholstery available. So I thought this is better then nothing. The carpet used is unbacked automotive carpet. If its unbacked its pliable to bend to curves etc. A box made with MDF is different. Edges means you have to have seams showing. (((This box is a transmission maze box it is not a hollow box inside, one end is a small 3.5 cu box and then its a maze for the rest of the box, this box is not hollow!!!!!)))) This is a 9 Cu, Foot Subwoofer Box I made. It took me about a week to make. it measures 48 inches long, 26 inches wide and 18 inches deep. This is not a video to show off my system, this is just to show the size of the box. The subwoofer inside the box now is only a 250 rms JL sub. I am currently saving money to buy the solo X sub. I should have the sub soon and I will have an updated video. Hopfully see you again when I update this video. Thanks and Enjoy -DJ Krisco- myspace.com/numbnutsthesqurl
