Car Audio Subwoofers Information

Car audio subwoofers are considered to be very important to get quality sound in any car. Sub woofers play frequencies or sounds that a smaller speaker simply won’t be able to produce. Frequencies that a sub is designed for are non directional sound meaning you cannot locate it. Because of that subs can simply be placed away (under seat or a truck).

Subwoofers vary in size and can get as big as 36”, but car owners use a subwoofer that ranges in size from 4” to about 18”. It is usually recommended to put subwoofers inside an enclosure (box) to get the maximum audio power possible.

Car subwoofers are made of many small parts which include a voice coil, duct cap, magnet, wires, basket, and a cone. All of these components have very important functions. The spider, for example, allows the voice coils to move back and forth only. The basket, which is made of either plastic or metal, mainly holds all the parts together. The basket keeps the heat away from the coil. The coil is an electromagnet which is generally constructed of copper. Whenever the coil receives electric charges, the coil moves and creates pulsating vibrations. This is accomplished because of the coils location within a magnetic field produced by the permanent magnet located within the woofer. When two magnets come together and are positively charged, they will push apart. In essence, the positively charged magnets cause the coil to push back and forth. The voice coil causes the cone shaped diaphragm to vibrate, and the diaphragm produces sound waves.

How to buy a car subwoofer:

1) Find a well-known car audio dealer. You can go online to get competitive prices on subs.

2) Do you know your budget? It is very important to have an idea on how much you are willing to spend. Subwoofer prices many vary ($100 – $600), so make sure to buy a quality sub that fits your needs and budget.

3) Choose the subwoofer size that fits your music preference. The more bass that is in your music, the larger subs you should buy.

4) Determine the available space you have in your car. If you have a limited space in your car, you won’t afford to get an enclosure which may lead to a lower sound quality. You can also buy powered subwoofers. These types of subs works perfectly in small places. If space is not an issue, then you can get a big subwoofer with an enclosure.

5) Choose a subwoofer with:
- High sensitivity.
- Greatest wattage RMS.
- Surrounds: Rubber surrounds are best, but foam works too.

El sonido del video es malo pues al estar tan cerca de los subwoofers se cortaba o saturaba por el exceso de graves.
Car Sounds with 12" Subs So Much Shaking

This is my first truck with performance car stereo. I got 12" Polk's Audios DB212-2 Subwoofers for a nice price from Circuit City ($299 to be exact) to replace my one Rockford P3 that I blew up because I put it in the wrong box. I left the stock door speakers and tweeters in the dash and added some Polk Audio in the pillars. So for all of you all that are 5"11' you are in trouble because that tweeter will be in your ear for really. I have an Alpine D Class M450 450Watts RMS Amp. The subs can handle 720 Watts RMS but it is loud enough now. I have the Subs wired with 4 gauge wiring and a 75Amp circuit breaker to replace my car fuse that kept blowing out. The subs are wire at 2 Ohms so they play loud. This was a quick video because I was just trying out my new camera and was in rush to go somewhere. I will take it to the empty parking lot and show all of this later. I will never be as good as those Realm of Excursion dudes but it is not bad for a starter system.
